Riding bikes in Japan!

So I rode about another maybe mile along the river in Kanazawa in March. So March gets one more pitifiul mile:) On April 1st... no fooling I rode about 8 miles from Matt my son's apartment to downtown Kanazawa. OMG it was on a cruiser bike and as you know I do not usually ride on streets here in Spokane because they are too busy and dangerous. Well picture riding bikes in downtown Seattle and that is what it was like. The streets were all either alley size or intersections that had 12 lanes. Still it was fun. Then Matt said oh by the way I have no brakes. Really... I just could not believe it! Everybody and their brother rides bikes here and in fact bikes are registered just like cars. We made it back to his and his finace's apartment in one piece so even though it was not a very long ride it was pretty exciting just dodging people and cars. Now about the date. It was the 1st in Kanazawa but the 31st in America so technically I could count it for March but since the ride was in Kanazawa I'm going with April. So now I am at 176 miles so far this year. yea! Now I can say I have ridden a bike in Japan which is cool.

St Patrick's Day Ride

So Steve and I did the Fish Lake Trail Ride on Wednesday. Boy the weekday is the way to go.There was practically no one on the trail. It was a little windy and with a slight incline it made the ride out a little slow that my back tire was leaking! It was a nice ride after sitting in class all day. I have another 15 miles which puts me at 65 miles for March. Will probably do another ride this weekend depending on how organized I am as I need to finish getting ready for Japan! Can't wait to ride bikes in Japan. I am looking forward to some fun different rides back home in April!

Back in the saddle ..again

The Sunday before last was beautiful a perfect day for riding. But by Sunday my cold and the fact that I don't sleep well caught up with me, so no biking. The first of March I imagined golden days filled with miles of riding. Then the real March reared it's head and it rained and I was sick.
I am revising my goals of 40 miles a week for spring. I think if I get a 100 miles each month until June it will be this side of a miracle. I did ride this last Sunday and today for 12 and half miles and it feels wonderful. Thought I might get another 12 in tomorrow not sure but Wednesday I may do the Fish Lake Trail, a nice 15 miles . Next week I will be in Japan and hopefully get some riding in with seeing Matt and Courtney and visiting a whole new culture.
49 miles for March .....not bad.

Sunny with a nasty cold...

What a beautiful day. I had decided that I would ride to the Post Falls Dam. That was the goal of the first ride back in January. Today was warm and sunny and I have a nasty cold . Crap. So although the going was much easier than January I felt like I had ten pounds of weight on my head and 60 on my legs. Talk about the tale of two winters. I still had the picture on my phone of the dam last winter oh my gosh what a difference two winters makes there was barely a trickle over the dam. Even though I felt like crap riding is now my new therapy. It is my thinking - dreaming time. I could have stayed home and rested and read, but then I would have missed out on one of the best parts of my day. However once I got back home I thought my head might explode and it was downhill from there.
It is Sunday morning and I am determined to ride.
I have done 22 miles so far this month not great but not too bad either.

March in like a lamb

I had great plans to ride on Monday of this week but I was so pooped I drove home to dinner and a glass of wine instead. I have carefully watched the weather report and Monday and today were the nice days. Although Tuesday was not bad at all. So I picked Tuesday and Friday as days with my trainer. Today Steve came along after asking were I was going to ride. I needed to pick up a prescription at the Safeway at Liberty Lake so this was the first time we have ridden with an errand as part of the ride. We don't like riding on roads with cars very often, so we use the trails a lot which means that we don't ride the bikes for transportation which in turn is sad.
It was a lovely ride....a short 10.55 miles. It is warmer thus I did not have to wear gloves today. Oh and those nasty little bugs were out already yish! Spring is here for reals.
With some sunny days coming up I am going to ride as much as possible. My goal for spring is 40 miles a week. Once summer gets here it will go up to a hundred and hopefully by the end of the season I will have ridden new trails and had loads of fun and will feel stronger ,healthier and happy .Yea endorphins.

100 Miles 2-28-10 YEA 900 to go

So I got a late night text from my sister informing me of their Sunday plans: church at 8:30 and a ride on the new Marshal- Fish Lake Trail. I missed church but met up with my sister and her husband Dennis on their tandem bike. The trail is all paved and very flat and about 7 and half miles thus the perfect ride to bring me to 100 miles and it is 2-28-10! yea! Even though the sun went behind the clouds right away it was still warm and very pretty. I love the smell of pine trees! Did I mention that I was past by a young mom with a wagon and two, two year olds .... yish! I did pass her later! Although it was an easy ride compared to last weeks Seltice lake ride it was still fun to try out a new trail and of course spend time with my sister and her husband. Part of riding the thousand miles is to visit new trails and have fun and that definitely happened today. 900 to go!

So I am a little behind on the posting. Amazing how my life now revolves around the weather report. I can't help it I am a fair weather rider. whatever.... Today I knew would be perfect and well it was. Crisp and cold but not too cold and not the W word. That's right ...WIND! I really can't stand the wind it makes me feel horrid and that is all there is to that. hmmmm
I biked another 12 and half miles today easy ones but they do add up and well I am at 85 miles!
Sometime this weekend it is going to be sunny and dry or not quite so rainy and I am going to get on my bike and ride until I hit 100 ... by the end of February 2010! Only 900 will be left, piece of cake right?
